You need to be prepared in advance and know exactly what you should and should not say. You may need to show compassion and empathy but you must not be drawn into speculation. A well trained spokesperson is vital. Organisations that respond well to a serious issue or crisis will protect their reputation and should survive. We also use storytelling to ensure we have that emotional connection with our audience, which every great presentation needs. Most of us tell stories to family and friends on a daily basis - they show our human side and often get better over time!

This is why it's so curious that when we get into the business environment, we stop telling stories. Instead, we stick to the numbers and PowerPoints but give nothing of ourselves.
